Dale & Valley Homes is a charity and Community Benefit Society, established in 2006 to manage over 4,200 council owned homes in the Wear Valley area of County Durham. On 23rd March 2015 we will become a registered provider under the newly formed County Durham Housing Group, alongside Durham City Homes and East Durham Homes.

Our history has been one of transformation, from a poorly performing council housing department to one of the highest achieving arms-length management organisations in the country. Our Board has consistently led this change through promoting exceptional levels of customer involvement and employee engagement.

Employee engagement and customer satisfaction have risen to record levels, and we have reduced our running costs by over a third over the same period. We hold the Customer Service Excellence award, and have been a “Sunday Times top 100 organisation to work for” for the past five years, maintaining third place nationally last year.

We have entered a new period of change, with new challenges, as the outcome of the council led “stock options” review has seen the establishment of the organisation as a housing association within a broader group structure.

Our non-executive Board is made up of elected customers, local authority nominees and independent members. Its role will be crucial in leading the organisation through this transitional period and develop opportunities and grow over the coming years, providing the resources to create additional homes within the community, provide employment opportunities for local people and continue to deliver improved services to our customers.

We are currently seeking applications to join our Board as an independent member. Our independent members are appointed on the basis of their skills and professional experience in various aspects of our business. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a working-knowledge of:

• Finance
• Housing Management
• Risk Management
• Human Resources

Board positions are remunerated (£1,440 per annum) and members are reimbursed for expenses incurred in carrying out their duties.
