Durham County Council has been successful in attracting funding from the European Commission to develop a new, innovative programme for unemployed young people in County Durham. The Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) will support unemployed 16-24 year olds improve their skills & move into employment, training or education. The YEI programme will run until July 2018.

We have set ourselves ambitious targets to reduce the number of young people unemployed in the county and we want to build a team of enthusiastic, motivated people to develop the YEI programme. This is a new team taking on a new challenge. We are looking for a person who can make a real contribution, both to the team and to young people in the county. We need someone who wants to make a difference.

The successful candidate will be experienced in working with young people not engaging in Education, Employment & Training, and have a proven track record in encouraging young people to participate and progress. The YEI Youth Engagement Workers will be part of a team, working closely with the YEI Transition Advisers and Progression Workers. They will deliver high quality effective youth work which recognises young people’s involvement and achievements and which promotes young people’s personal, social and emotional development. This will include open access youth work and targeted youth support.

Essential Qualifications: Nationally recognised qualification in Youth Work at Level 3 or above.

The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
