A vacancy has arisen with Health and Safety for a Senior Health and Safety Adviser.

The post holder will support the Health and Safety Manager and Team Leaders in ensuring high standards of health and safety for all employees and in all areas where the Council has an interest, and to assist in the formulation of appropriate policies and practices.

The post holder will advise management on their duties and responsibilities towards both employees and the public regarding risks to health and safety arising out of work activities and to liaise with Services to ensure the efficient co-ordination and operation of the various health and safety activities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the provision of professional health and safety services against the background of the Council’s objectives, guiding principles and equality policies, including the continuous development of a positive health and safety culture, which is regarded as being integral to normal management functions. They will also lead/manage a team of Health and Safety Advisers responsible for the provision of professional health and safety advice to Service managers, as agreed with the Health and Safety Team Leader.

The preferred candidate should ideally have previous experience of working in the Children’s Services and Adult Services sectors.

Candidates should have NEBOSH Diploma qualification or equivalent and Graduate Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. Candidates should have significant experience in a health and safety role in a multi-function organisation and have experience of undertaking health and safety audits /inspections/investigations.
