Gypsy, Roma, Traveller Education Advisor - 32 hours - Term-time only - Temporary until 21/12/2018 (or the day before the return of the substantive post holder)

The Gypsy, Roma, Traveller (GRT) Education team are looking to appoint a temporary GRT Education Adviser to cover a maternity leave vacancy for up to one year. This post is based in the SEND and Inclusion offices above Broom Cottages Primary School, but requires a great deal of travelling across Durham.

The GRT Education Advisers work closely with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller young people, their families and local schools to support access to education. Home visits will be carried out, as well as attendance at school and multi-agency meetings. The GRT Education Adviser will hold a caseload of young people across an area and will be required to support learning and also monitor attendance, progress and attainment.

The successful candidate should have substantial experience working with a variety of young people and their families, although we appreciate that they may not have worked specifically with Gypsies and Travellers in the past. They must also have a sound level of knowledge and experience working within education.
The post holder will have the opportunity to work flexi-time, but would need to available to meet the needs of an educational service and could be asked to deliver homework clubs after school hours.

Required qualifications: One of the following
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• NVQ 4 or equivalent in relevant discipline
