Further information

You will be responsible for taking action to improve environmental conditions within Northumberland and you will encourage compliance with relevant legislation related to environmental crime. Your at work time will mainly be in the areas of Cramlington and Ponteland. Your workload will be both reactive in response to service requests and proactive as you will participate in a programme of enforcement patrols to control levels of dog fouling and littering. When necessary you will take part in formal enforcement action including the service of fixed penalty notices and preparing case files for prosecution through the court system.

The job will involve regularly liaising with Cramlington Town Council and Ponteland Town Council. You will be expected to regularly attend evening Town Council meetings reporting to the Council on your activities. You will also be involved in environmental campaigns run by both the County Council and the Town Council’s. You will work in partnership with other County Council services including: Waste Management, Neighbourhood Services, Legal Services and other units within the Housing and Public Protection Service.

You must have a good standard of education and should have knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Anti - Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 and other associated environmental & waste control related legislation. You should also have a working knowledge of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) and The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE).

You will be expected to have good literacy and numeracy skills with the ability to provide comprehensive reports and the ability to handle difficult confrontational situations involving angry or aggressive customers. You must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build excellent working relationships to adopt a collaborative approach to work both internally and with partner organisations.
