Strategic Manager, Looked After Children – Resources

This is an exciting opportunity to join Durham’s strategic leadership team following a recent restructure. We are looking to appoint a highly experienced senior manager who will have responsibility for placements and resources for Looked After Children and Care Leavers within the council. You will be part of our senior leadership team within children’s social care and will have responsibility for the management of our residential children’s homes, our fostering service and placement provision.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, child centred and forward-thinking senior manager who has a good track record of delivering excellent standards of care for children and young people and who will take forward this part of this service through innovative and creative service development.

Durham has a good track record of managing high quality children’s homes and there are currently 9 children’s homes within the portfolio. We are committed to outstanding care for our children and young people and intend to have a dedicated focus on this work in order to continue to develop our range of accommodation and provision to meet the needs of our children and young people now and into the future. The role will involve developing new services to meet need; working closely with colleagues in commissioning and private providers to ensure that the council meets its sufficiency duty and ensuring that we continue to recruit, retain and support increasing numbers of excellent foster carers who can care for our children.

It is an exciting time to join Durham Children’s Services. We are committed to a strengths-based approach to practice and are currently embedding Signs of Safety as our practice framework. We have recently implemented Liquid Logic as our new case management system and received significant investment from the council to create additional social work capacity.

We would love to hear from you. For a further discussion and information about the role please contact Helen Fergusson, Head of Children's Social Care on 03000 268657.

Required qualifications:
• Final professional qualification in Health or Social Care to degree level or equivalent;
• Degree in related professional area;
• MBA or management qualification.
• HCPC Registered
