The Financial Support Service provides a number of key front-line council functions to residents and businesses throughout the County. There are currently 245,866 council tax households; 60,000 Housing Benefit / LCTRS claimants; 14,000 business rate payers; and 7,000 adult social care charge paying clients supported by the service. Many of the clients supported are vulnerable.

A vacancy has arisen within Assessment and Awards for a full time Assessments and Awards Officer.

The Assessment & Awards Officer will be responsible for amending Council Tax liabilities, applying exemptions and discounts, assessing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, in accordance with legislation, case law, and the working practices and procedures of the council.

Providing a quality safe and cost effective service to customers, including the provision of first line contact and prompt and efficient handling of any queries or problems.

The successful candidate must have experience of dealing with members of the public in a caring, responsive manner and operating on line computer systems.

Where our roles are customer facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. Candidates should possess a NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or Level 2/3 and relevant experience assessing income related benefits or processing Council Tax or Business Rates liabilities.
