Further Information
Our transport network gets us to work, to school, to cities, countryside and the seaside. For passengers and freight, the Transport North East Strategy Unit, oversees strategic transport planning for North East England on behalf of the North East Joint Transport Committee, representing the seven local authorities in our region.

We need a Team Support Assistant to help us reach our goals. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive and efficient personal assistant service to the Transport Strategy Director and will provide a range of administrative support services to the Tyne Tunnels Manager and the wider Transport Strategy Unit.

The role is new one, so when you arrive you will need to work with the team, stakeholders and partners in Gateshead Civic Centre to help establish the business processes and systems we need to allow you and the team to succeed. It is an opportunity to show case your skills and experience and make the job your own.

You will ensure that business needs are prioritised and managed effectively, making sure we meet our deadlines and objectives. The role will be responsible for tasks including diary management, the maintenance and preparation of documents and presentations to a high standard, and will lead on the organisation, management and administration of events and meetings including tracking actions.

Based at Gateshead Civic Centre, the role reports to the Transport Strategy Director, Transport North East so you will have experience of meeting and communicating with senior stakeholders. To be successful you must demonstrate your capability to be a personal assistant at a senior level and organiser to a wider team. You will have excellent ICT skills and should be able to work flexibly, sometimes under pressure to meet tight deadlines. We’re looking for excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, using a range of media. Attention to detail is paramount in this role, and as we are a public sector organisation you will be politically sensitive.

Most importantly, you must play your part to help the team succeed so you will have a professional outlook, an approachable manner, be self-motivated, enthusiastic, willing to lend a hand and happy to get involved in new challenges. The vision statement for transport in the region is: “Moving to a green, healthy, dynamic and thriving North East”. Why not join us for the journey?
