The council has a wide ranging set of waste related services and various waste contracts in place in order to manage the municipal waste that falls under its jurisdiction.

The average household produces around 1 tonne of waste every year and in County Durham we produce around 240,000 tonnes of household waste every year.

The successful candidate will be required to assist in the performance monitoring and administration of waste management contracts. This will involve liaison with internal council departments and external contractors and members of the public. The successful candidate will work within the Waste Contract Management team to ensure effective, safe and environmentally sound practices are implemented. They will also support the wider Strategic Waste Management team to provide information and advice around recycling and other disposal methods of household and trade waste.

Candidates should have experience within waste management and of monitoring related activities, in particular health and safety. They should have good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to deal with difficult situations.

Candidates should have the ability to record and report observations, good IT skills and a flexible approach with the ability to work weekends from time to time.

Required Qualifications: Level 3 or equivalent in a related subject
