School Staff Instructor – Combined Cadet Force – Required from 1st September 2020

Grade 3 £19,171 pro rata

Set in stunning countryside yet just a short drive west of Durham, it is not surprising that our small school has the largest CCF of any state school in North East England. Extracurricular activities, citizenship and exceptional pastoral care are at the heart of education at Wolsingham School.

Thanks to the Cadet Expansion Programme, our CCF is set to have 50-60 students in Years 8 to 11 from September 2020.
We are seeking a School Staff Instructor who will work alongside our Contingent Commander and CFAVs to keep the CCF as one of our premier activities. Interested candidates would also have the opportunity, if they wish, to lead our Duke of Edinburgh programme, which generally has 15-20 students who can easily enjoy outdoor education in the hills and forests that surround our school.

As a key member of our staff, you would play a full role in school life, leading and mentoring our students.
At Wolsingham School, you will find that:
• the CCF has its own dedicated stores room, well stocked with the necessary equipment,
• we have a CCF classroom, with computers and a large digital screen,
• we own a portable air rifle range,
• our Sports Hall has its own climbing wall,
• educational visits play a major role in school life and our CCF regularly attend camps such as Northern Rat and an annual summer camp.

Wolsingham School is an excellent place to work. We have exceptionally well-behaved students and the Cadets are very dedicated to the CCF. In 2018, Ofsted warmly confirmed our ‘Good’ rating saying, “Pupils are very happy at school and wear their uniform with pride.” The school itself is in a stunning building that combines original architecture with a new build set in extensive grounds. Staff come to us each day from all over County Durham, as well as Newcastle and Northumberland.

We are also ambitious for the future. Our Year 7 cohort is oversubscribed and the Governors have recently resolved to join a local, high quality Multi Academy Trust so that we provide an even higher standard of education for many more years to come.

The school welcomes applications regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity or religion. It is also committed to the protection and safety of its students. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure DBS check. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this.

Durham County Council is an Equal Opportunities Employer. We want to develop a more diverse workforce and we positively welcome applications from all sections of the community. Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met.

The Head Teacher, Mr Jonathan Ferstenberg, would be very happy to answer any questions you have or to meet with you and show you our school and grounds. To arrange a visit or for more information, please call us on 01388 527302 (until 17 July, when we close for the summer) or email info@wolsinghamschool.net at any time (this will be checked over the summer).
Applications, along with a Job Description and Person Specification, may be downloaded from our website, www.wolsinghamschool.net.

Applications should be emailed to info@wolsinghamschool.net.
If you would prefer to submit an application by hard copy, this should be mailed to Wolsingham School, The Grammar School Building, West End, Wolsingham, Co Durham, DL13 3DJ and the envelope should be clearly marked “SSI Application”.
We look forward to hearing from you.
