We have an exciting opportunity to curate and manage heritage and museum collections under the care of Durham County Council as maternity cover for the Museums, Heritage and Collections Manager.

We are looking for an experienced curator and collections manager to care for and manage collections comprising of art-work, social, industrial and geology collections, civic items, archaeology collections and collections relating to Killhope Museum and the DLI Collection.

This position will include all aspects of collections work and will include all Spectrum procedures, accreditation preparation, collections database administration and management, exhibition research and preparation, loans management, working with hazardous collections, preventative conservation, collection relocation and movement, historical research and dealing with enquiries, project management, learning and engagement development, and managing staff and volunteers.

The ideal candidate will have recent experience in museum or heritage management and the ability to be hands on as well as experience of preparing policies and procedures such as accreditation standards and grant applications.

The post holder will be able ensure effective working relationships with partner organisations and stakeholders, as volunteers, placement students and the wider museum and collections network.

Required qualifications: Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject.
