The Assessment & Awards Team provides a number of key front-line council functions to residents throughout the County. There are currently 250,507 council tax households and 26,223 Housing Benefit and 56,311 LCTRS claimants. Many of the clients supported are vulnerable.

Post Details:
There is currently a vacancy for a Principal Supported Accommodation Officer within the Assessment and Awards Team on an 18 month temporary contract.

The successful candidate will join our Finance and Transactional Service as part of the Assessment & Awards Team and will report to the Assistant Assessment and Awards Manager.

The post holder will manage all aspects of the Supported, Specified and Temporary Housing Benefit caseload including forward planning, delivery of tasks and activities. It is therefore essential to have a detailed knowledge of Housing Benefit legislation, particularly the legislation surrounding Supported, Specified and Temporary Accommodation.

The post holder will provide support and assist the Assistant Assessment & Awards Manager in the day-to-day management and development of the Assessment and Awards Service, in accordance with Council Policies and Financial Regulations and assist in the forward planning and co-ordination of all tasks.

The post holder will supervise the day-to-day operation of a team within the Assessment and Awards Service to ensure the duties of the team are carried out fully, accurately, within timetables and system requirements, and report thereon.

Required Qualifications and Checks:
Candidates should possess a Level 5 or equivalent or IRRV Full Professional Qualification/Diploma.

Employment Location:
The post is based in Green Lane Offices, Spennymoor however Durham has recently adopted hybrid working where part of your working week will be spent in the office and part working from home. Successful candidates will be expected to be flexible in balancing attending the office as required to meet the needs of the business with being able to also regularly work from home. The necessary ICT and homeworking equipment will be supplied.
