The Construction Consultancy Services (CCS) here at Durham County Council deliver professional services across a range of disciplines, our primary aim is to deliver capital build projects and programmes of all sizes, value and complexity that surpass customer expectation.
We manage internal and external design teams and construction partners to ensure projects undertaken and concluded are done so to the highest standards. Our portfolio is comprehensive and includes a rolling programme of circa 160 live projects with an overall portfolio CAPEX of £250M.
The team is responsible for the design and project management of new-build and refurbishment capital construction schemes, ranging from c.£50K to £10m+. Projects include educational buildings, sports and leisure facilities, public infrastructure, administration buildings, heritage projects, social care facilities and a continuous programme of capitalised maintenance condition works.
The role
We are pleased to say that our team is expanding so we are looking to add two Senior Electrical Design Engineers. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing high quality, cost effective design and project management expertise across a broad range of schemes so we are looking for robust experience.
This is a key role which will see you input your design expertise and in some cases act as lead bringing projects to successful conclusion.
Collaborative working will be essential so this role will appeal to someone with fantastic interpersonal skills who is able to engage and motivate others to achieve a shared vision.
Working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders you will ensure design work is undertaken effectively, timely and in line with budgetary constraints, you will also act as Principal Designer on certain projects carrying out full CDM responsibilities.
As a senior member of the team, you will be empowered to enable effective decision making to ensure the robust completion of works.
The ability to formulate solutions and then lead on their implementation will be essential so we are looking for an effective communicator who can motivate and support others to identify sound, construction design solutions.
The successful candidates will have considerable experience of managing design and construction projects from the Employer’s perspective, from inception to completion, and on through the defects remediation process.
Skills and experience:
This role requires a methodical and organised professional who can work in a pragmatic and design solution focused manner. The specific skills we are looking for include:
• Electrical design knowledge, including production of drawings and specifications
• Project management
• Written and verbal communication
• Analytical and problem solving
• Flexibility
• Collaborative and partnership working
• Use of AutoCAD and REVIT
• A thorough understanding of CDM 2015
Your experience should come with a HNC in a Building Services related subject and preferably, membership or associate of a relevant professional body and working towards full/chartered membership.
