Are you looking for a new challenge within the Finance and Audit sector?

Our Internal Audit team has responsibility for making a valuable contribution in providing assurance to one of the largest Council’s in the UK, alongside providing internal audit services to a range of external clients.

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is inquisitive, analytical and has an eye for detail to join our Internal Audit team as an Internal Audit Assistant.

With an excellent development pathway this is a great opportunity for someone looking to progress a career in Internal Audit with a large Local Authority.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

You will work closely with our Senior Auditor in the delivery of internal audit plans and provide support for reviews.

Your excellent communication skills will be brought to the fore when carrying out all aspects of internal audit work. This includes the drafting of terms of reference and control risk assessments, providing advice and guidance to internal and external clients, identifying improvements, and assisting in the preparation of reports. Your ability to build and maintain good professional relationships will be key.

Your understanding of the Internal Audit role will support you to ensure that assignments are delivered in accordance with professional standards and service performance targets achieved.

With a customer focused approach, you will help advise service areas on the prevention and detection of financial irregularities and the establishment and maintenance of sound systems of control.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

You will need 4 GCSEs graded A-C/9-4 including English and Maths or equivalent, and a requirement to study for AAT or Certificate in IIA. You will also need:

• Experience of working in a financial or audit environment
• An ability to build professional relationships
• An understanding of the role of Internal Audit
• A customer focused approach
• Excellent communication skills and the ability relay complex or sensitive information to managers

Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.

Where our roles are customer facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
