We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about the health of people in Durham, to join our Public Health team as a Public Health Practitioner.

We are looking for candidates with experience of effective multi-agency working to deliver population level public health and with excellent interpersonal skills to engage partners in the development of health and wellbeing programmes.

Public Health Practitioners are responsible for the delivery, coordination and facilitation of a range of evidence based public health programmes that build on local assets to address multiple health needs. This will include responsibility for a group of public health outcomes and process measures to achieve defined targets linked to the Public Health Outcomes Framework and mandated services which are a core function/ responsibility of Durham County Council.

**Public Health Practitioner (Suicide Prevention)

• The post holder will support the work of Suicide Prevention Alliance (SPA) to reduce the incidence of death by suicide in County Durham.
• The postholder will develop and maintain the local multi-agency suicide prevention action plan reflecting Office for Health Improvement and Disparities six key priority areas to reduce the risk of suicide in key high-risk groups and deliver against the national strategy.
• The postholder will also link to the wider mental health and wellbeing work across County Durham system.

**Public Health Practitioner (Healthy Settings, Strategy and Assurance – Workplace Health/Community Wealth Building)

Key areas of responsibility will include (but are not limited to):
Workplace Health
• Provide support to deliver against public health priorities that relate to workplace health and wellbeing in County Durham.
• Work with key internal and external stakeholders to promote and progress the County Durham Better Health at Work Award.
• Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to plan, design and implement programmes, policies, procedures and interventions to improve the health needs of the County Durham workforce.
• Work closely with DCC People and Talent Management and Occupational Health teams to plan initiatives, and deliver against actions to improve employee health and wellbeing.
• Plan and develop creative workforce health and wellbeing communications and campaigns.
• Evaluate/analyse the impact of current and future employee health and wellbeing initiatives.
Community Wealth Building
• Contribute to supporting inclusive economic development through a ‘local focus’ whilst promoting good work, and equalities in education, training and employment.
• Support initiatives to progress the role of local anchor organisations in the development of inclusive economic practices, improving the employment prospects of people from lower income areas.
• Contribute to existing and developing initiatives to drive long-term social and economic benefits (social value) to local people

Required Qualifications: Applicants will be expected to hold a relevant degree, supplemented by public health improvement knowledge, acquired through training, courses and experience and evidence of continuing professional development.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held on 9th/10th March, 2023.

Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer
