This is an exciting time to join the Children’s Residential Service as we expand our service provision in order to provide the best outcomes for children and young people in County Durham. We are committed to ensuring that our children and young people are provided with homes where they feel happy, safe and aspirational for their futures.

Our Children’s Residential Homes Service is expanding, developing homes which meet the individual needs of young people, and creating teams who are well supported and skilled in trauma-based approaches to work alongside our children and young people who will have a range of different needs.

The Role
We are looking for candidates who can successfully lead a team to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people, putting them at the centre of everything they do. We have an opportunity to lead the team at a Children’s Home in the Coxhoe area, which is a three bed-home.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and experience of Ofsted inspections. You should have an excellent knowledge of evidence-based practice and research in relation to looked after children.

You will play a pivotal role in the development and planning of the service, training of the team, delivery of an aspirational and innovative service with a view to ensure continuous improvement and development.

The successful candidate should have proven people management skills within a residential setting including experience of supervision, appraisal, training and development, HR practices and procedures. Additionally, exceptional communications skills and the ability to support and develop the team.

The service will place significant emphasis on supervision and the continuous professional development of the successful post holder and the wider team. We are committed to the development of our employees and offering creative and innovative training opportunities.

In addition, our Registered Manager should be an effective decision maker with the ability to review and implement changes when identified.

Skills and experience
This role requires an enthusiastic, innovative and relational practitioner, who will provide a home and working environment where the needs and aspirations of our young people are of primary focus. Our teams will be enabled and empowered to deliver exceptional care and support.

We are looking for someone who:
• Puts children and young people at the centre of everything we do
• Is committed to exceptional service delivery
• Has proven leadership and management experience
• Has knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and experience of regulatory inspections including Ofsted and Regulation 44
• Has knowledge of evidence-based practice and research in relation to looked after children and experience of regulatory inspections including Ofsted and Regulation 44

Your expertise should come with relevant professional qualifications including:
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or willingness to work towards this within 18 months from qualification enrolment in accordance with DCC guidelines

Our offer
The salary range for Registered Managers is £42,503 - £46,549 (starting salary within the grade range will consider experience relevant to the post if required for external candidates).

Plus £2,500 temporary recruitment/retention allowance. Allowances are in relation to permanent appointments only.
