We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Structures Design Manager to join our specialist team within Highway Services, managing all aspects of structural designs.

Highway Services are responsible for the maintenance of the Highway Infrastructure across County Durham, including approximately 3,800km of carriageway, 500 road bridges and 80,000 streetlights.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a variety of civil engineering projects across County Durham including refurbishment of historic structures, for example Whorlton Bridge and various landslip projects.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
Through effective management of the Structures Design Programme, you will ensure the timely delivery of quality and cost-effective structural designs to internal and external clients.

You will work collaboratively with other key members of the team, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring designs are compliant with current standards and delivered within appropriate timescales and budgets.

You will promote, develop, and maintain various performance standards to ensure quality and value for money services are delivered.

You will manage the production of detailed technical reports and manage the preparation and co-ordination of contract documents for a variety of projects.

WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Civil Engineering discipline, or able to demonstrate all of the essential criteria within the person specification.
You will also need:
• Experience in the design and maintenance of bridges and highways structures
• Experience of working at a senior level within a bridges and highways environment
• Experience of using computerised design / CAD software
• Knowledge of current design standards
• Effective management skills, including project management
• Effective communication skills
• High motivation and enthusiasm

HYBRID WORKING
Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
