North East Local Enterprise Partnership (old - migrated) - About Us

The North East LEP provides strong, collaborative leadership, supporting growth of the North East economy through an effective partnership with the public, private, education and third sectors - advocating for the region at the highest level.

Our strategic and entrepreneurial approach drives investment and job creation to support our local communities. All activity is evidence-based so interventions are timely and relevant, as well as focused on achieving our goal of 100,000 more and better jobs by 2024. The executive team champion the delivery of the Strategic Economic Plan and its programmes with partners regionally and nationally.

We are one of thirty-eight LEPs in the country and are responsible for promoting and developing economic growth in the local authority areas of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

The Strategic Economic Plan, sets out an ambition to create 100,000 more jobs, of which 70% will be better jobs for the North East Economy by 2024. You can read the plan here.

We aim to achieve these targets targeted activity and interventions in five programme areas of:
• Business growth
• Innovation
• Skills, employment, improvement and progression
• Transport connectivity
• Investment and infrastructure
