Further Information
Durham County Council has achieved a great deal during the first 10 years as a unitary authority. Our success has been delivered through our great people and strong leadership, as well as creative thinking, partnership working and a sheer passion for what we do. A key priority for the council is the safety, health, wellbeing and education of our children and young people.

An opportunity has arisen for a solicitor to join legal services in the Children, Adults & Health team, with responsibility for issuing and conducting care proceedings in all levels of court. This is a temporary contract, available for up to three years.

In addition, there is an opportunity for a solicitor to join the team to cover a period of maternity leave until approximately June 2020 or until the return of the substantive post from maternity leave, whichever is sooner.

Candidates should be motivated individuals willing to challenge the status quo and have a passion for driving organisational change. You must be a qualified solicitor with a current practicing certificate, or a qualified barrister, (or about to finish training) with knowledge of relevant legislation including Children Act 1989, Adoption and Children Act 2002. Recent experience of conducting care proceedings will be of particular benefit.
