The job purpose is to ensure attractive neighbourhoods in all parts of the borough.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to work, have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic and have the ability to work as part of a team. The apprenticeship will involve working outdoors in all weathers.

You will receive training in:

MAIN DUTIES:

Cleansing
• Graffiti removal / fly posting removal/ assist in EPA enforcement action/ weed removal
• Sweep highways / Pathways / Hard surfaces / Bus shelters / Steps
• Report and clearance of spillages and removal of drug related litter and dead animals
• Empty / sitting of dog/grit/litter bins. Use of auxiliary equipment for the purpose designed to assist in cleansing procedures e.g. wander hose / lance / power hose etc.
• To assist in winter maintenance operations – grit bins, clearing pathways
• General driving duties including routine vehicle maintenance and vehicle cleaning
• Street inspections including reporting defects relating to highway and streets, footpaths
• Removal of domestic, bulky, commercial and recycling material and report operational issues

Grounds Maintenance
• Assist in assemble / dismantle sports and play equipment
• Assist in setting out and marking of areas / over marking of existing play / sports areas
• Assisting with soft and hard landscaping and assisting with planting of trees, shrubs and other plant material. Also seeding of grass areas.
• Sweeping, rubbish removal, clearing of leaves
• Use of power tools as directed i.e. strimmers and blowers
• Mowing as directed using pedestrian and ride-on controlled machine


Other Duties
• Contract monitoring
• Deal with customer requests for service enquiries/complaints
• Liaise with customer/service users relating to the special collection service
• Identify and report anti social behaviour through team leader/line manager

This post is fixed-term for 18 months.
