What is an Adult Social Care Apprenticeship

Adult Social Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control. Throughout this apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to gain experience within a number of services both in the community and hospital environments

The apprenticeship will take approximately 12 months to complete and will allow you to achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. You will work alongside experienced team members and learn the skills and knowledge you will need to become confident in your role

The apprenticeship:

You will join a team within our Adult Social care service and receive a thorough induction, training and support to enable you to learn the skills and knowledge needed for the role. Four days per week you will work under the supervision of a dedicated adult social care worker, receiving training to complete all social work tasks. One day per week is allocated to specialist off-the-job apprenticeship training with Northumberland Skills.

The role will start in October 2022 and will help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.


What does the day-to-day look like
-Support individuals to live a more independent and fulfilling life

-Build a positive working relationship with clients, internal and external colleagues

-Support the reablement of clients in the community to regain their skills and confidence after an illness or accident

-Assist residents and patients of Northumberland in person, via telephone or email to provide a friendly and high-quality level of service

-Providing a responder service for Telecare Lifeline activations

-Fitting Telecare equipment and care management service across the community and hospital settings

-Maintain client records, such as filing, uploading and extraction of data

-Provide general administrative tasks such as processing information, creation and collating of documents

-Gather and enter data into spreadsheets, databases and other electronic information systems

About you:
-Passionate about caring consistently to make a positive difference to individuals' lives

-Like to work in a team but also be able to work on your own when given specific tasks

-Compassionate and willing to deliver care and support with kindness, consideration, dignity and respect

-Good communication skills, which are key to successful caring relationships and effective team working

-Strong organisation skills and good time management skills

-Committed to improving the experience of people who need care and support

What you need:
-GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/C or above (or predicted) or Level 2 Functional skills.
-Dedication and commitment to complete your apprenticeship over 12 months.
-An enhanced DBS will be required (funded by NCC)
