As part of the Council’s Annual Apprenticeship Program, we an opportunity to kick start your career as an Apprentice Cook Supervisor, gaining paid work experience whilst studying towards a professional Level 2 Catering qualification.
This is a great opportunity to develop your professional cooking and kitchen management skills to prepare, cook and serve first class, quality, healthy food options to children and young people aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle and improving healthy food choices.
As an Apprentice Cook your time will be split between a school kitchen, where you will learn how to prepare and serve school meals for up to 300 pupils and teachers, and a Civic kitchen, where you will prepare food for special events such as weddings, Mayor’s functions and much more. In addition to the hands-on experience, you will also gain experience of working in the back office alongside managers and business support officers, to see what it takes to manage 400 staff in 50 different sites across the Borough.
The main duties will include preparing, cooking and serving food along with general catering duties washing up and cleaning within a kitchen. You will work as part of a team ensuring that the quality and safety standards of the kitchen are met.
As this is an apprenticeship opportunity, you will be provided with all the training and support you need to be a success. We are looking for someone with the following personal attributes, skills and behaviours
• English Language & Maths qualifications - GCSE at Grade D / 3 or above or equivalent Level 1 Functional Skills (Predicted Grade or Obtained) OR the ability to achieve Level 1 qualification in English & Maths (subject to Initial Assessment)
• Communication skills - listening, spoken and written
• A team player who is not afraid to try something new
• Commitment to own personal and professional development

SALARY: We pay our apprentices National Minimum Wage for Age:
• Age 23 and Over: £10.42per hour - £14,020p.a.
• Age 21 to 22: £10.18per hour - £13,697p.a.
• Age 18 to 20: £7.49per hour - £10,078p.a.
• Under 18: £5.28per hour - £7,104p.a.
