We are a forward-looking council and recognise that we need passionate people who share our enthusiasm to deliver fantastic services to the people of County Durham.
Why choose an apprenticeship with Durham County Council?
We celebrate the huge benefits apprentices bring to us an employer, they bring fresh ideas and new ways of doing things, they challenge our thinking, they also bring new skills and knowledge that enables us to strengthen our workforce, ensuring we have an organisation that is fit the future.
Apprenticeships are a great way to earn and learn, they are a direct route to employment where you’ll get hands-on-training and everyday opportunities to put your new skills and knowledge into practice.
Alongside ‘on the job training’, you’ll also undertake formal study through a university, college, or training provider, this is where you’ll work to achieve a recognised qualification.
The role
As an Apprentice (Insurance & Risk Practitioner), you will develop skills, knowledge and experience working in Durham County Council’s Internal Audit, Risk and Corporate Fraud Team, as part of our wider Resources directorate.
The structured training programme will enable you to gain experience, further your education and develop your skills within insurance and risk services.
You will undertake training to give you the skills and competencies to assist in the administration of insurance claims, maintaining and providing high-quality claims information, producing routine reports, delivering informed advice to customers, assessing risk and contributing to an effective and efficient service.
The apprenticeship will be based in County Hall, but you may be required to work at any council workplace within County Durham.
You will study towards the Insurance Practitioner L3 as part of your apprenticeship.
You must either have or expect to achieve 2 GCSE’s including Maths and English grades 9-4/A*-C or equivalent qualification, together with good communication, experience of using IT and the ability to work as part of a team.
