Further Information
The Schools Go Smarter (SGS) programme funds delivery of Child Pedestrian Training across the Northumbria area until July 31st, 2019. Further funding is being sought to extend this very well-received project beyond its currently funded period.

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Child Pedestrian Trainer, working in schools across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, and reporting to the SGS Child Pedestrian Training Coordinator who is based at Gateshead Council.

As part of an established team, you will deliver classroom-based and on-road pedestrian training, mainly to lower Key Stage 2 pupils.

You will need basic knowledge of road safety, good organisational, communication, numeracy and literacy skills.

Responsibilities will include: establishing a good rapport with the pupils receiving training; giving clear advice and instruction in Road Safety to pupils both as a whole class (indoor sessions) and in smaller groups (outdoor sessions); demonstrating excellent practice as a pedestrian; being aware of and sensitive to pupils with special or additional needs; ensuring the safety of pupils when outside of school grounds.

Duties may also occasionally include making bookings and liaising with the lead trainers in each participating Local Authority (Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland).

Full training in Child Pedestrian Training techniques will be given. Experience of delivering training or working with children will be an advantage.

If successful you will need to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.
