Gateshead Psychological Service has a new exciting opportunity for Assistant Educational Psychologists to work preventatively into Gateshead schools, with a focus upon Early Intervention.

The Psychological Service is a dedicated and well-established team, which is highly respected by schools and within the local authority.
We have offered a hugely successful traded service to Gateshead schools since 2012 and are now looking to expand the Service to increase our ability to offer early intervention and therapeutic work focussed upon resilience.
The posts require a high level of personal drive, enthusiasm and creativity, plus the ability to work autonomously under pressure. You must be able to work as part of a team, be highly reflective, be able to learn from experience and be empathic, respectful and emotionally intelligent. You will work under the supervision of experienced Educational Psychologists to undertake a varied range of activities including group work, training and work with individual children.
The successful candidates will have experience of; applying psychology-based knowledge and skills to work with children and young people and professionals in educational and/or community settings; delivering training and delivering group activities with primary and/or secondary aged children and young people. You will; have a degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) and Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society and intend to apply for the Doctorate in Educational Psychology professional training to become a fully qualified EP.
You will have an understanding of current legislation and trends within the field of SEN and Disability and school improvement and a good understanding of child and adolescent development and principles of applied psychology. You will also have an awareness of issues relation to equality, diversity and inclusion; knowledge and awareness of safeguarding issues; an understanding of the role of the Educational Psychologist; the ability to work independently and under direction.
You must have excellent written and verbal skills; a high level of ICT skills in relation to e-mail, word processing, desk top publishing, PowerPoint and use of databases and spreadsheets; the ability to prioritise, manage time effectively and work to deadlines.
