The HSU, Hepscott Park provides instruction, work experience and support in horticulture, and physical, personal and emotional care to adults with learning disabilities. The Garden Cafe at Hepscott Park provides instruction and work experience in catering for adults with learning disabilities. The HSU and the cafe are both open to the public, and together function as a small garden centre.

You will be required to assist the Service Manager in the day to day management of the HSU and the Garden Cafe. You will be required to take a key role in service development to meet the needs of users and to respond to changing market conditions. You will be responsible for assisting with staff supervision, development and appraisal, health and safety and risk assessment, ensuring compliance with corporate objectives, and monitoring and maintaining the quality of service delivery.

You will be based at the Horticultural Skills Unit at Hepscott Park, but may also be required to work at the other two horticultural units at Sleekburn HTU near Bedlington, and at Tynedale Horticultural Service at Minsteracres, near Consett.

You must have a strong commitment to promoting the interests of people with disabilities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must have at least three years experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs in a day services setting, experience of leading and co-ordinating a staff team, and experience of horticultural work. You should have an understanding of supervision and appraisal systems, and experience managing health and safety and CQC service standards. A management qualification would be an advantage.
