ASSISTANT WORKSHOP CONTROLLER
(MIDDLEFIELDS, SOUTH SHIELDS)
£32,486 pa

Reporting to the Workshop Controller, you will be responsible for the effective day to day management and control of the Council's vehicle maintenance workshop and a team of technicians undertaking inspections, maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of 350 vehicles, including cars, light commercial vehicles and large goods vehicles.

You will also manage a DVSA designated facility authorised to undertake Class 4, 5 and 7 MOT Tests and oversee the testing of private hire and hackney carriage vehicles licensed by the council.

Working proactively with and for our customers, you will ensure the highest standards of customer service are delivered and that maintenance and repairs are undertaken within agreed budgets, service level agreements and in accordance with all relevant codes of practice and legislative requirements.

With a good standard of literacy and numeracy, you must have served a recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle engineering, maintenance and repair, hold a City & Guilds 383 or equivalent qualification in motor vehicle engineering maintenance and repair and have substantial experience at supervisory level, gained within a fleet maintenance environment.

You will be expected to maximise workshop productivity and efficiency and to identify and exploit new business opportunities. An appropriate professional qualification in road transport operations e.g. Institute of Road Transport Engineers/Society of Operations Engineers is desirable, as is experience of maintaining a diverse municipal fleet.

The post holder will work a 37 hour week commencing at 7:00 am each day, Monday to Friday and as a designated key holder to attend call-outs as necessary.
