Northumberland County Council is looking to appoint a Building Conservation Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to protect and promote Northumberland’s unique built heritage. Working within the Historic Environment Team, you will work with the team of Conservation Officers to deliver a full building conservation service across Northumberland. You will liaise with Development Managers and other council departments to provide conservation and design advice to ensure the protection, maintenance and enhancement of the historic built environment. You will advise on regeneration and environmental improvement initiatives, help to develop strategies and plans for the improved management of Conservation Areas and the wider historic environment and contribute to other policy documents. You will promote understanding and enjoyment of the historic environment.
You will have a degree or postgraduate qualification in Historic Building Conservation or Planning, Architecture or Surveying with knowledge of historic building design and construction. You should have knowledge, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of, conservation legislation and policy. You should be eligible for membership of the IHBC and have experience of Conservation Area Assessments. The post involves travel to work at sites and area offices throughout the County, therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements. This is a permanent post.
