Specialist Support Worker for EAL pupils

Permanent, 0.4fte, 15hrs per week 40 weeks per year, Grade 6 pro-rata

Have you recently worked as a TA in a UK school with EAL pupils? We wish to appoint a permanent, Specialist Support Worker to the English as an Additional Language (EAL) team. The postholder will offer short-term support to pupils learning English as an additional language in any school in county Durham. A minority of pupils may also have special educational needs or a medical condition.

The postholder will support the EAL induction package or raising academic achievement packages to accelerate the pupils’ ability to access the curriculum. Support is a mixture of in-class support and withdrawal sessions. You will collaborate with teaching staff in schools to ensure those EAL pupils new-to-English or at risk of underachievement are supported and monitored. You will work across all key stages in primary and secondary. Home school liaison and occasional home visits are integral to the post.

The EAL team promotes inclusion and equality of opportunity. This post is an excellent opportunity to join a small, high functioning team to focus on supporting pupils who are learning EAL.

This peripatetic post requires independent travel to fulfil the duties of the post for which car mileage is paid. Within the work, there is a strong focus on safeguarding and reducing inequalities.

Do you have experience of supporting children’s educational achievement? Can you assist settling pupils of all ages in to their new school? Do you have a genuine commitment to Equalities? If so, we would welcome your application.

Essential Qualifications:
BTEC Diploma in childhood studies, Cache NVQ level 3 in relevant area, A level or equivalents
