North East Local Enterprise Partnership
Careers Guidance Facilitator for pilot of Career Benchmarks
“Good career guidance is important for social mobility because it helps open pupils’ eyes to careers they may not have considered”. Good Career Guidance, Sir John Holman
The North East Local Enterprise Partnership works to deliver more and better jobs for everyone.
We have an ambitious Skills Programme, aimed at addressing current and future skills needs and enabling young people to access the ‘more and better jobs’ our economic growth plans will create. Key to achieving this is effective Career Education. In partnership with the Gatsby Foundation, we will be piloting the ‘Good Careers Benchmarks’ in schools and colleges over the next two years. These eight benchmarks are the result of an international study and they identify the essential elements of world-class career guidance. The Gatsby Foundation in partnership with the North East Local Enterprise Partnership will pilot the benchmarking in schools and colleges across the North East.
The pilot will test the benchmarks in action and we are seeking to recruit a Facilitator who will lead the programme. This will be a key role in developing good practice, influencing national policy and creating capacity in schools to provide effective Careers guidance.
A key element of the benchmarks is enabling opportunities for young people to learn direct from employers and experience of workplaces and the Facilitator will provide an effective link between business and education by co-ordinating a cohort of Enterprise Advisers who can enrich careers guidance activity in schools.

A Facilitator is required to lead a programme of activities with schools to implement and test the 8 career benchmarks under the direction of the steering group chaired by Sir John Holman. We are seeking an experienced individual who can work strategically with schools, employers and other education partners. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong project management skills, be an effective negotiator and influencer and be able to translate policy into practice.
