Social Worker, Families First Teams
Grade: Grade 9-11, £26,556 - £35,093 (salary on appointment is determined by length and level of experience)
Removal, lodging and separation expenses may be available to the successful candidate if at the time of application for appointment their place of residence is outside the administrative area of County Durham and in excess of 30 miles in a straight line from the their new administrative centre, along with a number of other criteria for eligibility.
Children and Young People’s Services are seeking both experienced and newly qualified Social Workers to join our innovative Families First Teams. There are vacancies in the following teams:
• Bishop Auckland – based in the One Point hub in Walker Drive, Woodhouse
Close, Bishop Auckland, DL14 6QW
• Chester-le-Street – based in the One Point hub in Burns Green, Chester-le-
Street, DH3 3QH
• Crook – based in the Civic Centre, Crook, DL15 9ES
• Durham – based in Durham Community Business College, Bracken Court,
Ushaw Moor, DH7 7NG
• Peterlee – based in the Leisure Centre, St Cuthbert’s Way, Peterlee, SR8
1AF
• Seaham – based in Seaham One Point Hub, Stangford Road, Seaham, SR7
8QE
Our Families First teams are social work led, multi skilled teams working with children, young people and families who are in need of support and protection. The teams work with children, young people and families until they are ready to deescalate into early help services, or until they escalate to Public Law Outline (PLO) or care proceedings.
Social workers in the teams are responsible for a caseload of families who require statutory social work intervention. They:
• Carry out proportionate, single whole family assessments, assessing risk.
• Work intensively with children, young people and adults within the family
to create sustained change and improve outcomes.
• Carry out child protection enquiries in accordance with their experience.

• Be able to remain calm and focused in challenging situations.

• Hold a degree or post graduate diploma in social work, or equivalent social
work qualification, for example the Certificate of Qualification in Social
Work (CQSW), Certificate in Social Services (CSS) or Diploma in Social
Work (DipSW)
• Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure check.
