“Children and families in North Yorkshire receive a consistent, high-quality service. There is outstanding practice within all teams, which has a demonstrably positive impact on effecting change for children and families. There are well-established multi-agency partnerships that understand thresholds, ensuring that families receive the right help in a timely way. Work is child-centred and there is a long-standing, clearly embedded model of practice, based on building effective relationships with children and families.” – Ofsted 2018

We are extremely proud of our recent Children and Families Ofsted report, rating us as outstanding in all provisions across our children’s social care services. We are currently the only local authority in the country to have gained this rating so this is a tremendous achievement for our workforce. Our main focus within Children and Families is now to maintain this success by continuing to offer an outstanding level of support to the children and young people of North Yorkshire.

We are seeking qualified Social Workers to help us on this journey and join our dedicated teams in the coastal area of Scarborough. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an organisation that is at the forefront of Children’s Social Work and continues to influence the rest of the country through ambitious and forward-thinking ways of working.

As an employee of NYCC you can not only expect to be part of a highly-acclaimed organisation, but also to receive the following:

• Ongoing support from managers who will ensure that you receive the relevant guidance throughout your role
• Numerous professional development opportunities enabling you to both develop and progress your career
• Generous leave entitlement, allowing a healthy work/life balance
• Relocation package available, dependent upon eligibility
• Flexible working hours – We understand that everyone has different personal circumstances and priorities outside of work. We therefore try to accommodate these by offering flexible working hours to our employees
• Manageable case load – don’t just hear it from us, read what Ofsted had to say about the work load at NYCC:

“North Yorkshire local authority monitors workloads and has invested in the recruitment of social workers so that effective relationship work with children and families can be maintained. There is investment in the development of workers and managers, who are able to access opportunities to further enhance their practice.” – Ofsted 2018

As a service, we are committed to creating a healthy culture where Social Workers feel that they have a forum to share their views about the organisation and environment in which they work. We have been nominated for several awards and have previously won Employer of the Year at the Social Work Awards. Through our workforce strategy we also ensure that staff receive continuous and excellent support from management. With 93% of staff saying they would recommend North Yorkshire as a good place to work as a Social Worker, this is an opportunity not to miss out on.

Whilst the post is based in Scarborough the service very much promotes flexible working with the ability to work remotely from other bases including Whitby, Malton, Selby and from home.

The East coast benefits from excellent road and rail links including easy access from the A1, A19 and A64, making Teesside, York, Hull and Selby all easily commutable.
