Further Information
Civil Parking Enforcement is delivered as an element of Transport Strategy, which is part of the Council's Communities and Environment Group. There are now vacancies for two Civil Enforcement Officers within this team. This is essentially a lone working role, although as part of a larger team.

Our Civil Enforcement Officers are the eyes and ears of the local community, patrolling areas, providing advice to residents, and members of the public, whist enforcing road traffic orders and issuing parking fines.

Your day will be spent mostly outside in all weathers walking considerable distances, so please consider this before you apply. You will be dealing with members of the public face to face so customer service must be something you enjoy, sometimes in difficult situations.

Your main duties will be to undertake extensive patrolling of on and off street locations throughout the borough, inspecting car parks, identifying contraventions and issuing penalty charge notices using hand-held terminals or manual systems when necessary.

You may be required to direct and organise parking in on and off street facilities, and you will undertake security observations and report suspicious and unacceptable incidents as required. You will liaise with members of the public to give advice on parking issues and enforcement procedures ensuring that the Council's customer care policy is adhered to at all times.

You must be qualified to City & Guilds Level 2 for Parking Enforcement Officers, or be capable of achieving this qualification upon appointment. You must have a current UK driving licence with entitlement for cars and light vans, as sometimes you will be required to patrol the wider area using one of our fleet vehicles. You should have knowledge of Parking related legislation and traffic management. You should have strong communication and customer care skills, have experience of working in a customer focused environment and a basic level of computer skills.

For further information please see the relevant job profile, the criteria within which will be used in the short-listing process.
A shift pattern is operated necessitating some weekend and unsocial hours working.

If successful you will be required to provide a suitable standard DBS disclosure. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete an on-line 16PF questionnaire which will be held at Gateshead Civic Centre prior to interview.

Please note: If you are appointed you will be required to use a hand held terminal on a daily basis for approximately 8 hours per day. The hand held terminals emit radio waves which may affect pacemakers. Therefore, you will be asked at interview if you have a pacemaker fitted.

This is a re-advertisement therefore previous applicants need not re-apply.
