Windlestone School is a well-established and successful day and residential school for secondary aged students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs; all students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

A position has arisen for a Domestic (cleaner) to work at Windlestone School. The successful applicant on a daily basis will be required to clean a designated area of the residential building and work in the school kitchen alongside the two cooks at lunchtime. Tasks will involve cleaning all aspects of the residential unit which includes ensuite bedrooms, living areas and kitchen. Washing dishes, cleaning floors, kitchen equipment and the dining room are daily tasks associated with the main school kitchen.

The role will be physically demanding but rewarding. The school has an immense pride in its residential provision and the excellent food which the cooks provide to all students and staff on a daily basis. We value our school buildings and therefore wish to maintain them to a high standard. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout their designated areas.

The hours of work will be Monday – Friday 10.15am – 2.15pm.

We currently permit staff during school holiday periods to negotiate start and finish times. This is reviewed every year and cannot therefore be guaranteed.

Application packs can be downloaded from this webpage and should be returned to the school by the closing date Friday 23rd February 2018 at 12 noon.

Interviews will be held within 4-6 working days from closing date.

Referees will be expected to complete the school reference proforma, in line with the school’s safer recruitment policy. Failure to do so may result in offer of employment being withdrawn.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory DBS check.

Durham County Council is an Equal Opportunities Employer. We want to develop a more diverse workforce and we positively welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met.

This position is whole time which means employees must work all year around (52 weeks per year), including during school closure periods. These employees will have a leave entitlement of 26 or 31 days (pro rata for part time) which must be taken when the schools are closed. The holiday entitlement runs from April to March, under Green Book terms i.e. not academic year.

Please note that the Childcare Disqualifications Regulations 2009 apply to this position and therefore you are required to complete the “disqualification by association” declaration form. Should you be successful in your application for this post, your appointment can not be progressed without this declaration.

Where our roles are customer facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. As a disability confident employer, we are committed to employing disabled people and people with health conditions making reasonable adjustments to support disabled applicants when required.
