Bishopton Pupil Referral Unit is a complex PRU of Stockton-on-Tees Local Authority. It takes pupils from Key Stage 2, 3 & 4 from the whole of Stockton authority. It comprises of two separate sites, Bishopton and Redhill who work together as one single PRU. One building on the Billingham site houses the anxious, phobic and home/hospital pupils (currently known as Redhill), the other houses key stages 2, 3 & 4 The PRU takes referrals from 60 primary schools and 13 secondary schools.
Bishopton is committed to providing a safe, caring and stimulating environment for all pupils on partnership placements. The key aim is to prevent permanent exclusion and all the adverse consequences which such labelling and experiences create, and enable pupils to succeed in mainstream education. The placement process for pupils is rigorous. Pupils that are referred to Bishopton are characteristically at high risk of permanent exclusion and exhibit disruptive and challenging behaviours and have underlying social, emotional and mental health issues.
