Grangetown Primary School invites applications for a Clerk to the Governing Board. The role of Clerk is central to the effectiveness of the Governing Board and you will make an important contribution to the school’s ongoing development. The Clerk will be accountable to the Governing Board, working with governors and in particular the Chair of Governors and Headteacher.

The Clerk’s main role is to provide professional clerking services to the governing body and its committees. This includes administrative support and professional advice where appropriate. You will:
• Collate and distribute agendas and associated paperwork in advance of meetings
• Take accurate and clear minutes from your own notes, to record agreed actions & decisions and to sum up key discussions, and to then produce well-presented minutes for distribution
• Be available to take minutes at 4 meetings per term throughout the year. Meetings will normally take place on a set day, with a 4.00pm or 4.30pm start.
• Provide procedural and legal advice and guidance
• Liaise with external agencies as required e.g. the Local Authority, Together for Children & the DfE
• Work with the Chair and Head to produce an annual schedule, covering the work of the Governing Board, and update this as appropriate.
• Maintain a training log and a meetings attendance log for governors.

Experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. A background in school or education-related administration would be an asset. Candidates should be competent in the use of a word processor, email and internet and have access to a computer. Applicants must be prepared to work flexibly, but some of the work can be done at home and circulated electronically. There is an Office in school available for the Clerk.

You should have an interest in education, be tactful and able to deal with matters confidentially. You should be reliable and be a good communicator (written and verbal).

An application pack is available from the school office, and can be collected in person or sent by email. Visits to the school are very welcome.

This post is subject to a successful DBS clearance, qualification checks and satisfactory references.
