Further Information
Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Do you have the drive to foster connections and create a vibrant, engaged environment? If so, Shildon Town Council has an exciting opportunity for you as our new Community Development and Engagement Co-ordinator.

In this role, you will be at the heart of our community, working to develop and deliver initiatives that bring people together and enhance the quality of life in Shildon. You will engage with community and voluntary groups, acting as the first point of contact and building strong, collaborative relationships. Your efforts will help to build community cohesion and promote active participation among residents.

Imagine leading the charge on community-based festivals and events, from Fun Days and Christmas Processions to Easter, summer, and Halloween celebrations. Your creativity and organisational skills will shine as you seek sponsorship for these events and community facilities, ensuring they are memorable and impactful. You will also maintain effective partnerships with established community groups, such as Shildon Children and Young People’s Action Network, Durham County Council Local Network, and Shildon Alive.

Your role will involve organising events that showcase the voluntary sector and volunteering opportunities, collecting valuable feedback from stakeholders and community members to continuously improve our services. You will work closely with the Town Council team to promote and market events through various channels, maximising participation and community involvement.

As a key player in our community, you will organise and lead meetings with community groups, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met. You will inform local debates and create a greater understanding of what the Council can and cannot do, reporting on decisions both internally and externally. Your collaboration with other agencies on community projects will help to develop and support the local community.

In addition to these responsibilities, you will promote the Town Council and its facilities, proactively seeking out opportunities to do so. You will maintain the Town Council’s website, investigate relevant external funding opportunities, and make applications for financial support. Your role will also involve evaluating projects, attending training events and seminars, and assisting with the administration of the Council Offices.

We are looking for someone with a recognised professional or relevant qualification, substantial experience in working with local communities, and a proven track record in partnership working and attracting external funding. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to achieve targets and work to deadlines. You should be an experienced user of Microsoft Office suite and have strong administrative and numeracy skills.

In return, we offer a flexible 29.5-hour work week, a competitive salary starting at SCP 11 £27,269 with incremental increases to SCP 15 £29,093 (pro-rata), 159.5 hours of annual leave, and an employer contribution pension. This role is office-based at the Town Council Offices, with the flexibility to accommodate events and meetings outside of regular office hours.

If you are committed to customer care, friendly, cooperative, and able to work under pressure, we would love to hear from you. Join us in making a positive impact on the Shildon community!
