Part-time 25hrs Consumer Protection Officer (Financial Intelligence)

Job Location: The place of work will be at Annand House, Meadowfield. However, you may be required to work at any council workplace within County Durham

VACANCY NO: AHS/17/12A

An opportunity exists for an experienced Consumer Protection Officer to carry out enforcement tasks primarily relating to intelligence requirements and financial investigations in the Consumer Protection team based at our offices in Meadowfield County Durham.

You will play a key role in the gathering, recording and disseminating intelligence and conduct financial investigations in cases where there has been evidence of financial gain from illegal activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in the Consumer Protection team and be required to take on an immediate work load and will also be involved in all types of Trading Standards enforcement and financial investigations as required.

You must have a significant and proven aptitude for conducting investigations and be competent in the gathering, processing and presentation of evidence and intelligence. You should be familiar with a full range of investigative techniques including PACE interviews, preparation of RIPA and warrant applications and have a full working knowledge of criminal investigative procedure.

Candidates must have the drive, initiative and necessary enforcement skills to take on difficult investigations, formulate lawful and effective interventions and deliver successful outcomes with minimal supervision.

You will need to be a strong team player and have the necessary skills and experience to contribute fully to complex investigations and support our joint working with partners such as the Police, Licensing services, and HMRC and have experience of financial intelligence systems.

The ideal candidate will be confident, self-motivated and have a forward looking, imaginative and creative approach to their work. You must also be able to develop positive and supportive relationships with internal partners and external agencies.

Essential qualifications: Currently hold a recognised Financial Investigator or Financial Intelligence accreditation.

Due to the requirement to drive a County Council vehicle in this role, appointment will be subject to the production of a valid driving licence for the required category of vehicle and the satisfactory completion of an in-house Driver Induction Assessment.
