Tyne & Wear Archives are delivering a new project called Unlocking North East Jewish Heritage which will create an online resource to tell key stories of the North East Jewish communities and to widen access to these archives. The project will digitise collections and develop and maintain a digital platform that enables the stories of the Jewish communities of North-East England to be told, and broadens engagement with the Jewish history of the region

We are looking for an enthusiastic curatorial assistant to support the digitisation of material relating to the Jewish communities of the North East that is held in regional archives and collections. Experience of working with, handling and moving original archives and an awareness of collections care is essential. You will have experience of archives copying and digitisation as well as using CALM or similar archive collections management systems. It will also be essential to have good communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate strong IT skills.

This post will be based at Discovery Museum with an agreed working pattern over Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at Tyne & Wear Archives. The Archives team is part of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), a major regional museum, art gallery and archives service. It manages nine sites in the North East of England including 4 museums, 3 art galleries and 2 Roman forts.

Fixed Term from September 2022 initially for 6 months to cover maternity leave.

*This post attracts the Newcastle Living Wage supplement. In addition to the hourly rate, this post will receive the Newcastle Living Wage supplement to bring the hourly rate up to a minimum of £9.90 an hour.
