NORHAM HIGH SCHOOL
11-16 mixed comprehensive (NOR 321)
Closing date: - Friday 3 April at 9.00 am

Norham High School is passionate about the care and support it affords children, as well as striving to secure their academic success. Our motto is ‘Believe, Strive, Achieve’ and this sits at the heart of our drive to deliver a great education to our pupils. We believe that every child has the right to an excellent education and that it is our role to support them, both academically and pastorally, so that they grow to be the very best version of themselves.

Norham was considered to be an inadequate school by Ofsted in October 2018 - a school where standards were not as high as they could have been and behaviour was poor. However, our recent Ofsted Monitoring Report (please see attached newsletter) and our parent/carer and pupil surveys have shown that this is no longer the case.

Ofsted stated that:
• ‘New Senior Leaders have brought to the school a renewed sense of purpose’
• ‘...this has been helped leaders’ clarity and determination’
• ‘Pupils are polite, behaviour is calm and staff and pupil relationships are positive’
• ‘Norham recognises that its staff are its greatest asset and this is evident through our extensive CPD programme and through staff benefits and rewards’.
We therefore welcome all excellent candidates to visit the school and meet some of our wonderful children and committed staff. Staff morale is exceptional, thanks to the support and guidance that all leaders now provide. This follows the appointment of a new Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher, along with other key staff, that are supporting the school’s drive to improve.

At Norham, we all take great pride in forming the best relationships with pupils that help them to thrive. Behaviour here is now excellent, with exceptional conduct around and beyond the school as pupils and staff greet visitors - and each other - with kindness and respect. Pupils take pride in their appearance and are smart, professional, and fully equipped for their learning.

Norham High School is pupil-centred, enabling them to have a real voice in our current and future improvements through our pupil council and other pupil leadership opportunities.

We are looking for a candidate with the commitment and determination to be all they can be for our pupils. We have a number of pupils at our school with SEND, lower prior attainment, and poor literacy. This increases both the challenge and reward of serving this community. We really are making a difference to children’s lives.

In order to help us continue on this journey of improvement and secure “Good” in our next full inspection, we require a Teacher of Science who has the passion, energy, integrity and commitment to help us deliver our school’s vision and ethos.

Applications for this 1 year fixed term post are invited from people who are keen to join an organisation that is recognised for the high quality care and support it provides for its pupils and staff, its committed staff team, and the drive it has to raise standards at all levels.

While the ability to teach physics would be preferred, this is not essential for the right candidate.

If you would like further information, please contact Joanna Maclean or Jo Walker-Maxey on (0191) 8143890 and visit the school’s website and social media platforms.
