Further information
An opportunity has arisen within the Housing Advice Centre for a Debt Advisor.
The Housing Advice Centre is Newcastle’s frontline response to the prevention of homelessness for those people who may be experiencing housing difficulties or crisis.
The role of the Debt Advisor is to provide a comprehensive debt advice and advocacy service, including the provision of information, support and training for claimants and partner organisations.
A key part of this role is to manage a caseload of complex debt cases, therefore it is essential that you have an up to date knowledge of current relevant law, practice and procedures and the ability to maintain that knowledge. You will need to have good written and oral communication skills and a structured approach to work, alongside the ability to meet tight deadlines. As well as frontline interviewing, you will be required to staff a consultancy telephone service. Approved DRO Intermediary status and holding the Institute of Money Advisers’ Certificate in Money Advice Practice (CertMAP) are essential for this role.
For those shortlisted for the interview, there will be a test to enable you to demonstrate your abilities and knowledge of managing complex debt cases.
For an informal discussion, please contact Gill Simm, Housing Advice and Assessment Manager, on 0191 277 1717, or extension 21717, or Gary Webb, Manager – Welfare Rights Service, on 0191 277 2621, or extension 22621.
