Are you our next Deputy Head Teacher?
The pupils, staff and Governors are looking to appoint an outstanding leader with experience and the relevant skills and enthusiasm to work with our young people. This is an opportunity for an existing senior leader to broaden their leadership expertise or an exceptional middle leader aiming eventually for headship.
This post includes a teaching commitment, with the subject delivered dependent on the specialism of the candidate. As part of their monitoring and development role we expect that the deputy head will have oversight of all subjects.
The Meadows School is a mixed secondary special school that caters for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues. The school's reputation is one that we are particularly proud of, providing a caring, safe and family orientated ethos with a therapeutic approach. Most of our young people live across County Durham, in some cases they live beyond the borders into Darlington, Cleveland, Middlesbrough, Cumbria and Northumberland.
We strive to create a sense of belonging where our pupils feel they are valued and respected, an atmosphere where all can make progress and succeed and where we can provide opportunities and experiences that are additional and different, that raise aspirations and develop resilience.
We believe that progress both in life skills and academic achievement are essential for all pupils, enabling them to overcome emotional insecurity and social volatility and create for themselves a positive future. We are proud of the high number of our pupils who transfer confidently to the next stage of their education and maintain contact with the school after leaving us.
At The Meadows we provide an environment which allows pupils to develop their social skills, academic potential and emotional security. Our next deputy head will make a vital contribution to this environment with their expertise in curriculum design and in developing the quality of teaching. Exact roles and responsibilities will be dependent on the strengths of the successful candidate.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and this post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
Governors would strongly recommend that prospective candidates should visit our school before making an application. We have set aside the 14th March 2023 between 10am – 2pm to meet potential applicants. Please contact us for further details or if this is not possible, so that wider options can be explored.
This post is not open to job share.
