We are seeking an exceptional Planning professional to lead and develop our planning service for our geographically diverse county. You will have a focus on delivering economic growth, high quality development and excellent service delivery for the Planning function. This post will help to drive forward the county’s ambitious regeneration programme and deliver new homes and jobs.

To lead our service you will need to have strong leadership capabilities, work corporately with both the Executive and Senior Team and elected members.

The role of Director of Planning is to lead all aspects of the Local Plan Policy and Development Management processes, including managing a team of officers dealing with enforcement investigations, conservation matters and the validation of planning applications, as well as a direct involvement in dealing with applications.

Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team within Place Directorate within the Council this is an opportunity shape the direction of planning within Northumberland.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a significant level of experience and knowledge of all areas of planning and development as well as excellent leadership qualities. You will bring best practice to the regulatory processes of planning together with possessing an excellent strategic vision and a wider understanding of the Council’s ambitious priorities set out within our Corporate Plan.
