Further Information
“This is Redcar and Cleveland. We are an ambitious council keen to build on our strong track record of innovation and partnership working, ensuring that we create a flourishing future for the borough and all of its residents. Key to this is a committed workforce who always gives their best. Offering a fast paced, progressive working environment, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a great career move.”

This post is based at the centre of the council in the Resources Directorate which has key responsibility for managing the council’s money and people as well as ensuring that democratic decisions are well informed and legally sound.
Each year we employ canvassers to assist us with the production of the revised register of electors.

During the annual canvass, Household Enquiry forms are sent to each property within the borough. In subsequent months we send reminders to any property that we have not had a response from.

Canvassers are employed throughout the Borough to pay a home visit to residents who have not returned either their household or individual registration form and to assist residents with completing these forms. This occasionally involves dealing with challenging and difficult behaviour.

This is temporary part time work for approximately four weeks. Canvassers must be available from the end of September until the end of October, however there is a possibility that this work may also continue later in to November. It is expected that most of your visits will be conducted during the evenings and weekends when most residents are at home. This work can be done in your spare time, alongside a full-time job. Full training will be provided.

Payment amount is based on the number of completed forms returned following your visit to the households which have been allocated to you, as demonstrated by the example in the attached document titled 'Payment Structure Sample'.

If you would like further information about this post, or would like to apply to be a canvasser for Redcar & Cleveland, please contact Fiona Hammonds or Ali Haver either by phone on 01642 444528 or email fiona.hammonds@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk or alison.haver@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk

Applicants will be invited to an awareness and assessment session which will take place during the week commencing 25th June 2018, where full details of the post will be provided.

The council is an accredited Investors in People employer at gold level and holds ambassador status for the North East Better Health at Work Award.
