Further Information
The Trading and Commercialisation Service are looking to recruit a full time Electrician on a permanent basis. The role is within our Building Maintenance team to provide services to council buildings and external clients during an exciting time of service development.

The successful candidate will work at a variety of locations across Gateshead, installing repairing and maintaining installations. This work will be in Gateshead Council building stock as well as buildings belonging to third parties. The majority of this work will be commercial systems although some domestic work will be covered and the successful candidate will be expected to work with a lot of flexibility in terms of where they are employed.

The key roles of the post are included in the job profile and include a wide range of duties working on domestic and commercial electrical systems. At all times the successful candidate will be expected to liaise with clients and provide a high level of customer care as well as supporting safe work processes. Included in the role is the use of a Council vehicle so a full UK driving licence is essential.

It is essential that you have knowledge of installation, maintenance and servicing regimes in domestic and commercial buildings and that you have experience of working on both existing and new build installations including general wiring systems, fire alarms and data cabling.

Knowledge of relevant standards such as BS7671, BS5839 Part 1 and BS5266 and legislation such as COSHH and CDM is essential for this post to ensure the highest standard of work is provided to our customers.
The post is only open to individuals who are time served or have NVQ or equivalent qualifications including 17th Edition. Evidence of this will be required at interview. Similarly C&G 2391 inspection & testing qualification, or equivalent, is required as well as a current CSCS card.

It is desirable, but not essential, that you have knowledge of wider health and safety regulations as well as local government policies and procedures. Experience of working with mobile work systems would be advantageous but not essential as the role will include the use of such systems to record work progress. Candidates with qualifications in data system installation or maintenance or with a BAFE fire alarm qualification would be at an advantage.

The role will involve working 3 weeks of 39 hours followed by a week of 32 hours, the use of a Council vehicle and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme is available as well as a number of other advantages of working for Gateshead Council.
Interviews for this role are likely to be held during week commencing 9th April although flexibility in dates will be allowed to secure the best candidate.
