Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums (TWAM) is one of the most successful cultural organisations in the country. It manages 9 sites and is a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England.

We are now looking for an Engineering and Railway Operations Manager who will be responsible for providing a comprehensive engineering, maintenance and technical service to support Stephenson Railway Museum, North Tyneside’s popular heritage railway and visitor attraction. The venue is run in partnership with the North Tyneside Steam Railway Association and other volunteers.

Working closely alongside our dedicated team of volunteers, who deliver much of the maintenance on the railway as well as crewing our trains, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of the workshop machinery and operations on-site, and the maintenance of the railway infrastructure, locomotives and rolling stock. You will also help shape our customer offer and venue development going forward.

You will have strong engineering skills and experience together with a robust knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and controls and enthusiasm for heritage railways and the wider museum sector.
