The Domestic Abuse Service in Bishop Auckland is seeking an experienced Counsellor/Psychotherapist to facilitate one-to-one counselling and occasional therapeutic group sessions to clients of the service seeking therapy.

Wear Valley Women’s Aid comprises emergency refuge-based accommodation, in-house support and outreach support to victims of domestic abuse.

To be considered for this flexible, fixed term contract you should be BACP/UKCP accredited, and should hold current membership at the appropriate level. You should also subscribe to the DBS update service. You should arrange your own insurance and personal counselling supervision with a an external, qualified and experienced counselling supervisor.

You should have experience of working with female victims, or you should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the impact of domestic abuse.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and written skills, should be organised and should work towards the objectives of the organisation, sharing WVWA’s vision and values.

The role will include:
• Assessing clients’ suitability for therapy, scheduling therapy programmes
• Delivering one-to-one counselling to up to five clients per week, managing your own caseload
• Facilitating occasional group sessions as required, with up to six clients in attendance
• Participating in support planning, complying with confidentiality requirements
• Participate in risk-assessments
• Working alongside the support staff team to develop an effective monitoring system
• Supervising the work of up to one student across the contract duration
• Responding to referrals in a timely manner

This is a part time, fixed term contract for 26 weeks.
