Exciting new changes are coming to South Tyneside’s Fostering Service with a review of our core business to incorporate a Family and Friends Care Service and the introduction of a new Payment for Skills Framework in January 2018.
The Family and Friends Care Service has been established in acknowledgement of the many children and young people who are cared for by extended family members or friends. We recognise that this type of caring is different from other kinds of fostering and requires specific expertise. The service is intended to provide a single point of access, specialised assessment and support for children and their carers who are in these circumstances.
The Payment for Skills Framework that reflects our commitment to offering children and young people who need to be looked after away from their families the best quality care for as long as they need it. It embodies clear expectations about high quality care being delivered directly to children. It encourages carers to build expertise in caring over time through experience, skills development and progression opportunities.
As a Fostering Officer you will contribute the provision of a high quality robust fostering service and be responsible for the recruitment, assessment monitoring, support and development of a skilled, carer’s workforce that gives children what they need when they need it most.
South Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant pre-employment checks.
