Group Manager - Safeguarding: Children’s Social Care Location: Northallerton – County Wide Salary: Circa £51k plus relocation package. We are looking to appoint to the pivotal role of Group Manager (Safeguarding) at North Yorkshire County Council where our Children’s Services are recognised nationally for our innovative approach and ability to radically improve the life chances of vulnerable young people. As Safeguarding Group Manager in North Yorkshire you will join a highly skilled, determined and ambitious senior management team where you will lead the safeguarding service to ensure that children are kept safe from harm and driving the need for permanence decisions for children made swiftly and safely. You will supervise the 9 safeguarding team managers ensuring that consistent social work practice is delivered across the county. Driving high standards and leading performance across the service are critical to this role. As such, you will have a thorough understanding of social work practice, associated legislation and guidance and an ability to manage care proceedings and complex child protection decisions. An ability to be able to manage your time effectively, to represent the service strategically at associated meetings and to support the service are key. In return, you will be well supported by the Head of Safeguarding and Looked after Children and work closely with the Group Manager for Looked after Children and permanence. Signs of Safety is well embedded across the service and you will be expected to drive this across other agencies through practice leader forums. We have an ambitious, comprehensive and effective workforce strategy in place which has secured a stable and permanent workforce. Our vacancy rate is low at 7% and there is a low turnover of staff. We have no agency workers and 50% of the workforce are experienced social workers. As a result of our excellent workforce stability, children enjoy positive and stable relationships with their social workers.
