Required 1 January 2018 or as soon as possible.

We are looking to appoint an inspiring, dynamic and talented individual to lead and develop our friendly and fully inclusive school. Due to the retirement of our long standing Headteacher the governors, teachers, parents and pupils are looking to appoint a new Headteacher who is capable of building on our success and leading our school’s development.

Hawthorn Primary school, “Where Every Child Really Matters”, is part of the West End Schools’ Trust and is situated in the heart of Elswick, Newcastle Upon Tyne. The school continually strives for improvement and our children make outstanding progress between Reception Class and Year 6. “The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is good. All pupils are valued and any concerns they may have are listened to carefully by adults. This is an area of strength” Ofsted 2016.

If you are that talented and exceptional individual who wants to work with our delightful children you will:

• Have a proven track record demonstrating an ability to provide inspirational Leadership.
• Be passionate about teaching and learning and believe in maximising the potential of all children.
• Have the ability and commitment to build upon our excellent working relationships with parents, governors and the wider community.
• Be able to motivate, challenge and inspire others to provide high quality teaching and learning.

In return we can offer you:

• A dedicated and committed whole staff team.
• A school of co-operative and collaborative children with “Pupils who are outgoing, cheerful and friendly with good manners and respect for each other and all adults” Ofsted 2016.
• A school where pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a strength which enables them to develop into thoughtful and considerate young people by the time they transfer to secondary school.
• A school with a very positive ethos that permeates through the school and a shared commitment to improve.
• A school with a fully supportive and developing governing body committed to the professional growth of the school and its community.
• Collaborative and close working relationships with six other schools that form the West End Schools’ Trust.
• A school that is financially stable.
• There is a unit as part of the school, the Additionally Resourced Centre (ARC) for 12 additional pupils with ESBD (Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties). Many of them have complex needs but they make wonderful progress both socially and academically once with us. The inclusion of the ARC children in all aspects of school life exemplifies Hawthorn’s ethos.
• We are proud to be part of the nationally famous In Harmony project; every child in the school learns an orchestral instrument and we have our very own Symphony Orchestra.

If you would like to know more about our school, please come and visit us. Mrs Anne Stoker, Chair of Governors and Judy Cowgill the present Headteacher are looking forward to showing you around the school on Monday 22 May 2017 afternoon or Tuesday 23 May 2017 morning or by appointment.

The visit will provide you with an opportunity to see the school in action and ask questions. This can be arranged by contacting the School Business Manager, Mrs Angela Young on 0191 2734237.
